While steering clear of cultural stereotypes is a firm rule of mine, I have to make an exception when it comes to tequila and Mexico. After living here for 20 years, I can confidently say that the love for tequila is not just a stereotype but a delightful reality!
After learning my lesson with straight tequila on more than one occasion, I now almost always opt for a margarita when dining out. There’s something about a margarita that makes me feel like I’m on holiday and gives me a warm, fuzzy feeling inside.

This is a new found favorite for me. From the same owners as Tostévere and Bocaciega, this new, Italian-inspired restaurant in San Miguel de Allende offers a tempting cocktail menu. The margarita is my favorite, with the Lillet Spritz taking close second place.

Pork Belly
A staple restaurant for us in San Miguel de Allende that has really stood the test of time and never disappoints. The mixologists here really know what they’re doing. Don’t miss the jamaica (hibiscus) margarita with a spicy tajin rim—my favorite, while Erick always opts for the spicy/sweet ginger margarita. Seriously the best margarita mixes!
