Nom. Nom. Yes! San Miguel de Allende y sus Sabores

If there’s one thing San Miguel de Allende knows how to do, it’s throw a party, and the San Miguel de Allende y sus Sabores (San Miguel and its Flavors) event held this past weekend did not disappoint! The event brought together locals and expats alike, all in the name of celebrating the city’s incredible food scene. Local chefs and restaurateurs were there to pull out all the stops to showcase their best dishes.

From the moment we arrived we were captivated by the mouth-watering aromas. It’s always difficult to narrow down where to grab our bites. This time there were more than 30 restaurants offering small plates for no more than 70 pesos! If you were calculating that day, that was approximately $3.86 making it easy to try several vendors without breaking the bank. Oh, and anyone for seconds? Yes please!

We found traditional Mexican fare that paid homage to time-honored recipes and innovative fusion dishes that blended local ingredients with international techniques. Hand crafted cocktails, and local beer and wines were also offered to complement everything.

But it’s not just about the food; it’s the sense of community that makes this event truly special. As we moved from stall to stall, we found ourselves striking up conversations with fellow food lovers. For us, these interactions always create opportunities to make new friends and special memories all woven together by a shared love of food.

And if you like to dance, or enjoy watching others bust a move, the live music from several local bands was the best dessert! (Uh, no, not really. The fresh strawberry cake from Sophie’s Bakery was the winner of that contest.) We couldn’t help but smile watching children running around with sticky hands and wide smiles, seeing an array of excited dogs, and watching the undeniable beauty of people enjoying each other.

By the end of the day, we were delightfully full, not just from the amazing food but from the experience itself. San Miguel de Allende y sus Sabores is a reminder of why we love this city so much—its ability to bring people together, to celebrate our differences and our commonalities, all through the simple act of sharing a meal.
